Healthy Cholesterol
CAUSE OF HIGH CHOLESTEROL: Usually caused by diet high in cholesterol and saturated fat, if there is too much cholesterol for HDLs to pick up promptly, or if there are not enough HDLs to do their job, then cholesterol levels will be elevated. cholesterol also is manufactured in the liver. Thus, good liver functioning is necessary for cholesterol balance. The liver is responsible for filtering nutrient filled blood from the stomach and the intestines. It filters out fats, unneeded cholesterol, overabundance of hormones (affects fibroids), toxins and other harmful substances. Cholesterol levels are also affected by genetic makeup (generational).
SYMPTOMS: A high level of cholesterol in the blood doesn’t have obvious symptoms, but it can increase risk for conditions that do have symptoms, include chest pain caused by heart disease.
Evacuation of colon
Especially, it is important to evacuate the colon before starting your new diet change. This helps to prevent the reabsorption of the waste that is in the colon from returning to circulation within the body. Butternut root bark is a mild and safe laxative, which can be bought in health food store. Evacuate colon two consecutive days to help ensure effectiveness. Laxative is best taken at night for evacuation in the morning. The large intestine (colon) peek time for functioning is 5:00 am to 7:00 am for bowel movement.
Liver
Plan to stimulate the liver to eliminate wastes and harmful substances from the body, increase bile flow to emulsifies (disperse) fats, balance cholesterol levels, eliminate overabundance of hormone, improve liver function to process nutrients for increased energy and healthy nerves for sleep/rest.
Dandelion root: has immune system regulation and defense, destroys tumors (tumor necrosis, fibroid), has mild laxative (increase bowel movement), and diuretic (increase urination) effects, stimulate gallbladder to release bile (bile breaks down fat).
Liver flush
Freshly squeeze ½ lemon in one glass pure water first thing in the morning,
Followed by 2 cups herbal tea of dandelion. Then do not eat for one hour.
Take liver flush for 7 days, then 3 days off (none). This is one cycle
Repeat cycle once more.
Liver flush is taken for two cycles. Stop taking and immediately report rash or signs of bleeding to your health care provider.
Cholesterol Levels
Especially elevated LDL (low density lipoproteins) is considered to be a contributor to plaque build up in the arteries and impede blood flow to the brain, kidneys, genitals (sex organ), extremities (hands, arms, legs and feet),
and to the heart. High cholesterol is the primary cause of heart disease, because cholesterol deposits in the arteries. It may also be implicated in gallstone, impotence, mental impairment, and high blood pressure.
Cholesterol is manufactured in the liver. It is needed for proper brain and nerve function, and for manufacture of sex hormones. It travels through the blood stream by latching on to lipoproteins. LDL are the major transporter of cholesterol. HDL (high density lipoprotein) are considered good cholesterol, because they carry unneeded cholesterol away from the cells and back to the liver, where it is broken down for removal from the body.
While eating foods high in dietary cholesterol can raise blood serum cholesterol, it is not the only source of cholesterol. The body produces its’ own cholesterol. Diet high in cholesterol and saturated fat increases cholesterol level. Vegetarian diet, regular exercise, and nutrients as niacin and vitamin C helps to lower cholesterol.
The national cholesterol education program has set a “safe” level of total blood stream cholesterol which includes both LDL and HDL to be at 200mg/dl (milligrams per deciliter of blood). Above 200 may be potential for developing heart disease. 200 to 239 is borderline. Over 240 is high risk. The normal HDL for adult men in the United States is 45 and for women it is 50 to 60. HDL level should be 70 to 80 for protection from heart disease. HDL under 35 is a risk.
Nutrition to regulate cholesterol in diet
Essential fatty acid has HDL (good cholesterol) and is found in:
Cold-pressed flax-seed oil
Black currant seed oil
Borage oil
Primrose oil
Whole wheat
Whole rye
Fish oil as salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines
Linoleic acid (is an essential fatty acid found in linseed or flax seed and safflower oils)
(Essential fatty acids taken with vitamin E helps to reduce the LDL level and thins the blood. When taking vitamin E supplements, you can monitor your blood pressure and blood clotting time as readjustments takes place within the blood circulation. Monitor with your doctor.)
Vitamin E improves the blood circulation. Some food sources are:
Spinach
Asparagus
Carrot
Lettuce
barley
Brown rice
Beans
Lentil
Peas
Almond
Raw unsalted walnuts
Corn oil
Sunflower oil
Wheat germ
Almonds cuts cholesterol by 16 points over four weeks in one study.
Vitamin C help to lower cholesterol. Food sources of vitamin C are vegetables such as:
Asparagus
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Kale
Snow peas
Sweet potatoes
Fruits such as:
Cantaloupe
Grapefruits
Honeydew melon
Orange
Tangerine
Strawberry
Vitamin E and C are antioxidant (anti-cancer) that converts free-radicals to harmless waste and scavenger them out as the body detoxifies.
Other cholesterol lowering foods
Apple
Banana
Garlic
Olive-oil
Oats
Oat-bran
Use only unrefined cold or expeller-pressed oils. These oils have never been heated above 110 degrees. At this temperature enzyme destruction begins (enzyme are needed to start the reactions within the body). Use vegetable oils that are liquid at room temperature, as:
Olive oil (olive oil is recommended)
flax-seed
primrose
black currant seed oil
Whole grain cereal lowers cholesterol, but use in moderation since fiber absorb the mineral from the food it is in. Take extra mineral separately from whole grain.
Manganese is a mineral needed for fat and protein processing for energy, healthy nerves, and healthy immune system. It is used in energy production and for reproduction. Needed for use of vitamin B1 thiamine. Manganese works well with B Complex vitamins to give an overall feeling of well-being. It is a key element in the production of enzymes needed to break down fats.
Some food sources are:
Avocados
Nuts
Seeds
Seaweed
Whole grains
Blueberries
Legumes
Dried peas
Pineapples
Green leafy vegetables
Dandelion herb
Peppermint herb
Red clover herb
Pectin is a carbohydrate substance that reduces heart attacks and heart disease by reducing blood cholesterol. It gets rid of waste out of the body, reduces glucose (sugar) and insulin levels in non-diabetic individuals. Food sources are fruits and succulent vegetables as:
Apples
Bananas
Beets
Cabbage
Carrots
Citrus fruits
strawberries
Dried peas
Okra
Green beans
Wild clover honey and lecithin lowers cholesterol and acts as a fat emulsifier (brakes up fat). Lecithin is a type of fat that helps prevents heart disease, aids in absorption of thiamine by the liver, it is also known to promote energy and is needed to help repair damage to the liver. Lecithin enables fats such as cholesterol to be disbursed in water and removed from the body. Lecithin granules can be sprinkled on cereals and soups or added to juices or breads. Lecithin also comes in capsule form, taken before meal to help in the digestion of fats and absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Some food sources of lecithin includes:
Brewer’s yeast
Grains
Legumes
Fish
Wheat germ
Drink fresh juices especially carrot, celery, and beet juices. Carrot juice helps to flush out fat from the bile in the liver and this helps to lower cholesterol.
Margarine that contains plant sterols is a healthy option instead of margarine, lard, or butter. (I personally like vegan, non GMO buttery spread.) Non-fat milk, low-fat natural cottage cheese, skinless white poultry (no hormone treated) may be taken in moderation. Use with caution especially in cases of fibroids and other health problems.
Avoid junk food, refined or process food.
Other HERBS to regulate cholesterol
Spirulina has been shown to lower cholesterol. Spirulina has high level of B Complex vitamins and minerals. Enhance resistance to disease, protect the liver, and boost energy. Its’ protein content is comparable to meat and milk. It must not be grown in contaminated water. Store in cool dry place.
Taken usually 2 to 3grams by mouth daily in divided amount.
Dandelion tea preparation
1 Tablespoon dandelion root, in 5 ounce water. Bring to boil, then simmer for ten minuets. Strain.
Get regular moderate exercise and always consult with your doctor before beginning a new exercise program. Avoid stress and sustained tension. Learn stress management techniques.
Stress Management technique
Breathing and relaxation technique:
1) Touch the tip of your tongue to the inner surface of the upper front teeth. Then slide it just above your teeth until it rest on the alveolar ridge (the soft tissue at roof of mouth). Keep it there during the whole exercise.
2) Now exhale completely through the mouth making an audible whoosh sound.
3) Then close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a silent count of four.
4) Then hold your breath for a count of seven.
5) Then exhale audibly through the mouth, to a count of eight.
6) Relax the muscles in your body.
7) Imagine yourself in one of your favorite places.
8) Repeat cycle twice daily.
